The reservation system lines are open from 7:00am until 5:15pm Monday through Friday. Appointments can be made for any location in the state up to 90 days in advance. Customer Service Centers conduct testing during most business hours. Please see the Locations tab at the top of the web site.

  1. Teens

Georgia uses a reservation system to schedule road tests for drivers under 18 years of age prior to obtaining a Class D license. The reservation system provides a specific time for the road test, thus eliminating long waits and guaranteeing service on a specific day. The entire appointment typically lasts about 60 minutes, including paperwork, road test and license issuance. Please have the teen’s permit number available when calling to schedule the reservation.

  2. Motorcycle

Road test reservations are recommended for those who already hold a motorcycle permit. You may not schedule a motorcycle reservation unless you hold a valid motorcycle permit. Without an appointment, you will be worked in between scheduled appointments, but there is no guarantee that you can be served on a particular day. Motorcycle road tests are not available at all Customer Service Centers. Motorcycle road tests are conducted on limited days and times at those Customer Service Centers who offer motorcycle road tests. Please contact the Reservations center at the number above, for specific availability.

Reminder: Those with a sealed Motorcycle Safety Certificate are exempt from the road test.

  3. Out of State Transfers

Those new to the State may make an appointment to exchange an out-of-state driver's license for a Georgia license at several Metro Atlanta locations. Appointments are encouraged but not required. You may make an appointment by calling the Contact Center Reservation line, 678 413-8400. Appointments are offered at Decatur-South DeKalb Mall, North Cobb - Canton Rd in Marietta, Lithonia, Lawrenceville, and Locust Grove. 4. Commercial Road Tests

The Albany, Gainesville, Jackson, Milledgeville, Dalton and Thomson Customer Service Centers offer commercial road tests. All Commercial Road Tests are by appointment only.

Effective January 5, 2009, the $50 road test fee must be paid at the time the appointment is scheduled. Credit cards only are accepted for payment for telephone reservations. If you would like to use a different form of payment, you may visit any Customer Service Center to pay the $50 fee and schedule a reservation. You will receive a paper receipt which should be retained for further transactions.

If you fail to show for your scheduled appointment or do not call to reschedule at least the business day before your appointment, the $50 fee is lost. A new $50 fee is required to schedule the next test appointment.
