Commercial Vehicle (Truck) Training Schools located within the State of Georgia must be licensed and approved by the Department of Driver Services (DDS). Each school is inspected prior to commencing operations and Compliance Analysts from the Regulatory Compliance Section perform routine audits and inspection of records during the year to ensure compliance with the DDS rules and regulations. The curriculum provided at each school must be submitted along with all documents and student handouts with the original application. The curriculum is reviewed and approved by DDS prior to issuance of a Certificate of Approval. Certificates are issued for a period of four (4) years and must be renewed at the end of that time.
Instructors at Commercial Vehicle (Truck) Training Schools are also certified and licensed by DDS and must pass a comprehensive written test prior to issuance of an instructor permit. The Instructor's test is given at the DDS Conyers headquarters on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. Every effort is made to test applicants as soon as possible.
