Driver Services Commissioner Urges Customers to Gather Important Documents
During National Preparedness Month
Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) Commissioner Rob Mikell urges all customers to collect and protect all important documents as part of September’s National Preparedness Month. “It is important to gather significant credentials such as the family’s birth certificates, banking and credit accounts and secure them in a protected and water proof location,” urged Commissioner Mikell.
National Preparedness Month is an effort to promote the importance of being prepared before disasters strike. In addition to planning a family emergency kit and evacuation plan, Commission Mikell urges everyone to secure all personal data.
A good suggestion is to make a photocopy (both sides) of every item in your wallet. “Customers will be able to retrieve all account information and contact numbers quickly in case of fire, flood or pick pocket,” he added.
In accordance with the homeland security Real ID Act of 2005, DDS has required all customers who are obtaining, renewing, or reinstating a Georgia driver’s license or identification (ID) card to present original identification documents. Also required are proof or social security number and two proofs of residential address.
