Driver Services (DDS) Commissioner Accepts Technology Awards

Three Online Services Honored

Department of Driver Services (DDS) Commissioner Rob Mikell recently accepted three awards for DDS online customer service enhancements during the recent Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) 2013 Technology Innovation Showcase. This year's showcase spotlighted projects designed specifically to improve operating efficiency, make information more easily available and improve customer service.  DDS was selected for the Agency’s focused enhancement of online driver’s licensing options including the ‘Create a Custom Checklist’, ‘Online License Status Check’ and ‘Monitored Driver Service’ options on the website.

“I proudly accepted this recognition for the entire DDS team that works so diligently to improve customer service,” said Commissioner Mikell. “Web based tools will continue to be a priority for enhancing customer service at DDS,” he added.

The value of DDS online services as a resource to customers is especially pertinent since Federal Homeland Security initiatives (Real ID) require all customers to present identification, social security and two residency documents for any license renewal or issuance.  Visiting the DDS website at will ensure customers are prepared for their transaction before visiting or could enable them to skip an in person visit completely.  The award winning online services are:

  • ‘Create a Custom Checklist’ enables customers to create and print  a customized list of documents they'll need when obtaining a new driver's license or state ID or renewing an existing one
  • The ‘Online License Status Check’ enables customers to access the status of their license to determine if a driver's license is valid, suspended or expired without calling or visiting a DDS customer service center
  • Customers operating fleets of motor vehicles can obtain real-time driving histories to help them make decisions influenced by the driving behavior of their fleet drivers
