Partnership Provides Modern, Efficient Facility in Laurens County
Citizens in Laurens County will visit a brand new Department of Driver Services (DDS) customer service center (CSC) for driver's licensing services beginning August 1st. The new center is located at 620 County Farm Road. Standard operating hours will be Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The center will be closed every Monday.
The relocation of the CSC is made possible by a partnership between Laurens County and the State of Georgia. The County acquired the land and provided construction of the new facility which the State will rent. The State continues to provide equipment and staffing.
The new facility is approximately 5,000 square feet. It includes 10 service counters, ample inside seating, free customer parking, 15 computerized testing stations and a lobby management system. Six driver examiners will provide driver's license issuance and renewal, reinstatement services plus driving history information. Vehicle road skills testing and motorcycle testing will also be conducted at this site. The Laurens County license examiners have earned a reputation for providing excellent customer service. Most recently, they received five of the six DDS Customer Service Awards presented for outstanding customer service at a CSC.
The current location at 1504 Telfair Street has proved insufficient to serve the growing Laurens County area. It has been a goal of the DDS to improve or relocate ineffective centers to enable customers to be served in a faster, friendly and easier manner. In June, the current center served over three thousand customers.
"This new center gives us the capability to serve a greater number of customers in a very efficient manner. We are very pleased with the help and support we are receiving from Laurens County," said DDS Commissioner Greg Dozier.
The DDS customer service telephone number is (678) 413-8400. Customers may also call toll-free (if dialing from outside the metro-Atlanta area) 1-866-754-3687. Many transactions may now be done on-line (replace a lost license, change your address, obtain a copy of your driving history) by visiting www.dds.ga.gov.
