375-2-2-.05 Issuance of License Plates and Renewal Decals. Amended.
(1) No license plate or decal shall be issued, renewed or transferred unless the owner certifies that the vehicle sought to be licensed is insured in compliance with the mandatory provisions of the Georgia Motor Vehicle Accident Reparations Act. The owner shall list the name of the insurance company providing the above insurance coverage and the policy number in the space provided on the application. If the owner is self insured, he or she shall so indicate.
(2) The county tag agent shall issue all license plates and renewal decals which are maintained in his or her inventory of license plates and renewal decals. All other license plates and renewal decals shall be issued by the tag agent.
(3) If the license place or renewal decal applied for is not in inventory, the tag agent shall issue a 90 day temporary operations permit with which the vehicle may be operated until the license plate or renewal decal is mailed by the Commissioner to the applicant. If the applicant has not received the renewal decal or license plate within 75 days from the date of issue of the temporary operations permit then in effect, the applicant shall notify the Department in writing that the renewal decal or license plate has not been received and shall request a replacement temporary operations permit to be issued. The Commissioner shall then issue and mail to the applicant a replacement 90 day temporary operations permit upon which the vehicle may be operated until the license plate or renewal decal is received by the applicant
